It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of 13-year-old Josiah Michael Dwinell from New Hampshire. Only eight days after celebrating his birthday, Josiah’s young life came to a tragic end, leaving his family, friends, and community in deep mourning.
Josiah faced significant challenges in his life, enduring bullying at school and during bus rides, which contributed to a difficult and painful period. Despite the struggles he experienced outside of home, he was deeply loved by those closest to him. His “Mimi,” who adopted him after the loss of his mother more than five years ago, provided constant support, care, and love. She accompanied him through hospital visits and sought every opportunity to help him navigate his struggles. Those who knew Josiah at home remember him as a bright, loving, and joyful child — a devoted son, brother, and nephew whose presence brought happiness and warmth to his family.
His family has established a fundraiser to assist with funeral costs and honor his memory. They, along with the wider community, are seeking ways to remember Josiah’s life with love, compassion, and understanding.
This tragic loss is also a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness, particularly for young people. Advocates encourage families to speak openly with children, listen without judgment, and ask direct questions when there are signs of distress. Support, empathy, and timely intervention can make an essential difference in preventing tragedies.
We extend our deepest condolences to Josiah’s family, friends, and loved ones. While no words can ease the pain of such a devastating loss, may the love, memories, and care surrounding him provide some comfort. Josiah’s life, though far too brief, will be remembered for the joy, light, and love he brought to those who knew him.
